The executive protection field is saturated with a wide range of individuals with very diverse backgrounds. This has cast a dark shadow over what executive protection work is really all about. Many celebrities will hire current police officers, ex-football players or bodybuilders for their physical presence. Generally speaking, police work tends to be reactionary. Officers respond to incidents rather than prevent them from happening in the first place. Even the most proficient patrol officer may take awhile to adjust the specific nuances of executive protection, which is a much more proactive style of security. And while size can be a deterrent to the average overzealous autograph-seeking fan, it may not deter the more sophisticated criminal or mentally ill person with bad intentions directed at you the client. Therefore, even size can have its limitations in this kind of work.
